FELS Head Start & Pre-K Counts Programs

Our Head Start and Pre-K Counts programs are for preschoolers offering them a curriculum that is aligned with state and local standards.

Head Start and Pre-K Counts both provide an environment to help preschoolers grow academically, socially, emotionally and physically. The programs offer supportive services and healthy meals and snack. By enrolling your child in either of these programs, you will give them a great start to a bright future.

About Head Start
For decades, Head Start programs have been providing children from low-income families the support they need for a better future. The program’s fundamental belief is that all children can succeed if they are in an early learning environment that is nurturing, supportive and fosters their healthy growth and development. In addition to the educational component, Head Start offers health and development screenings, nutritious meals, oral health and mental health support. Parents and families are supported in achieving their own goals, such as housing stability, continued education, and financial security. Programs support and strengthen parent-child relationships and engage families around children’s learning and development.

Who is eligible for Head Start?
Children with a family income at or below 100% of the federal poverty level are eligible to apply.

About Pre-K Counts
The Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts (PKC) program was established by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to make quality pre-kindergarten opportunities available to children and families across the Commonwealth. Children with a family income at or below 300% are eligible.

The Head Start and Pre-K Counts programs are offered at Paley Early Learning Center and Lassin Early Learning Center, both located in Northeast Philadelphia, PA.
