Lokoff Mitzvah Programming

Mitzvah Programming for the 2018 – 2019 School Year

October: Jewish National Fund – Firefighters

October is Fire Prevention Month and as a community mitzvah project, we would like to help the first responders in Israel.  Unfortunately, the Israeli firefighters lack basic equipment and supplies and the municipal fire truck fleets are aging and inadequate.  The Jewish National Fund has taken a major role in supporting the Israeli firefighters in providing protective gear, equipment and fire trucks.   We are proud to partner with Jewish National Fund and Friends of Israel Firefighters to brighten the future for Fire and Rescue Services in Israel.

November: Philabundance Food Drive

At the Lokoff Abramson Early Learning Center in Blue Bell PA, staff believe that you’re never too young to learn about giving back to your community. Ariel Drobnes, whose children are enrolled in the Center said  “I love the fact that at the Lokoff Abramson Center my child learns that it is important to reach out to those who need help. It’s astonishing to see how empathetic and generous they are.”  “This month,” said Center Director Mandy Schaible, “we are collecting non-perishable items such as pasta, canned vegetables and granola bars for Philabundance.  In the coming months, our kids and families will be conducting drives collecting diapers, new pajamas and items for animals in shelters. “

January: Pajama and Book Drive

New pajamas and books are magical gifts that we collect and give, with love, to children. These gifts inspire children, teaching them how to use imagination and creativity to change their lives. They are the building blocks of confidence, trust and love. And because we give them unconditionally, these gifts help create a trusting connection and long-lasting bond. It’s easier than you might think to comfort and delight the children who need it most, giving simple but magical gifts that lift the spirit and can change the world.

Lokoff families brought in new pajamas and/or new books for children and teenagers.

February: Jewish National Fund – Trees

In connection with the Jewish holiday of Tu B’Shvat (Jewish Arbor Day), our children will be fundraising to help plant trees in Israel.

April: Alex’s Lemonade Stand

Giving back to those in need is as sweet as lemonade! The children at Lokoff held a lemonade stand to raise money for the childhood cancer charity.

May: Giving back to the Wissahickon Public Library
